Autumn Contrast was a beatless dub session recorded in late 2019, and released at the now closed Arctic Dub label in February 2020 as part of their sixth label compilation. With the much-anticipated return of the titular season this year (my favorite of the seasons, somewhat unsurprisingly), I felt compelled to put together a release of the full session, which includes the "composted" mix (later issued on Filtered Artifacts III) and a previously unreleased 40-minute version - the lion-maned KMS Dub - completing the circle, giving Autumn Contrast a proper release here in the ABX catalog.

Sonically, the session was led by the Korg MS-20 monophonic analog synthesizer, which unspooled shimmering dub chords through the standard outboard FX rig in the studio at that time (BBE Two Timer analog delay, Alesis Quadraverb, Boss SL-20 slicer and RV-3, Moogerfoogers, Digitech Whammy 4), and augmented by vintage drum machines from Korg (KPR-77) and Roland (TR-626) after they were resampled via an Akai S2800 12-bit sampler. Basslines came from a Korg Volca Sample and an Arturia Microbrute, and field recordings were incorporated via a Roberts 450A reel to reel and additional delays/flangers/etc. Trainspotters will note that the original version of Autumn Contrast is presented last in the track sequence - this decision reflects the original order the tracks were recorded in, illustrating how sometimes the piece chosen from a given session for release is the last take attempted.
