What seems like a shorter volume of only four tracks for the fourteenth Cmx album is in fact a deceptively deep 67 minutes of ambient techno and minimal dub music. Opening with a previously unreleased mix of 'Refocus' that was shelved in the archives as a rehearsal, Cmx XIV establishes the foggy Gaussian mood that will follow throughout the duration. The second cut is a rare mix for Response=Signal, which was included only as a bonus track on the CD-R release at Recycled Plastics, and this mix meanders polymetrically through a soft haze, inspired by Dettinger and Wolfgang Voigt's M:I:5 material, among other Profan recordings. Following this is the Sunthaw mix of Parallelism's 'Ice Ghosts,' previously unreleased until now, and perfect to curl up inside while the Winter cold stays outside. Closing the set is the expansive 35-minute April Valley Nights mix of Foamek's 'Avalon' - also a disc-exclusive bonus track at Recycled Plastics - which offers a spacious and psychedelic pasture of new wave rave bass, crumbling tape loop textures and a persistent heartbeat of a waterlogged drum machine.
