I've been wanting to assemble a collection like this for some time, and I think I've finally landed it here. Deep Works is an eight-disc set that compiles eighteen different longform CH cuts from eighteen different releases issued between 2012 and 2016. These dates are contextually connected to these recordings, as CH really began to produce longer and more impressionistic tracks right after my daughter was born in April of 2012, and this was in part due to the Botany Bay studio being set up only a year prior. This set follows many of the tangents laid to tape in that space, "finding a way" as Rhythm & Sound may have said, up to the last year I would spend in the room before relocating to Ohio in the Autumn of 2016.

Even as full as this collection is, it still leaves many landmark longform recordings out, such as Cornucopiad, Whitehope / Whitehope Versions, Monument and the 24-hour Dripping Earth series. Those releases would be the first suggested paths outward from this set, a map for anyone who is a newcomer to the Halifaxian acres, or even a seasoned explorer who might want to travel back in time a bit. Sonically, many of these pieces were created using a minimum of hardware running into and out of a massive saturation of FX processing, and all of them were completed in the Botany Bay studio, minus the Conundrum Music Hall live performance of Whitehope, which was the only live set I've ever done using the vintage tape machines and archaic analog gear that, under normal circumstances, never actually leaves my studio. In this way, the Whitehope set is very much Botany Bay mobilized and transplanted onto a stage, although at the time, only a very small crowd was there to experience it.

It is my hope that this retrospective provides useful contexts and perspectives on the CH back catalog, as any good retrospective should. Today, many of these recordings might be overshadowed by the much longer and much deeper overgrowths that have since become the dominant flora in the Halifaxian landscape, so it's good to spend some time in the past, sometimes, and really get a sense of where I've been.
