about

Hexad Lands collects the singles Hallex and Red Sand, both issued in 2012 at the Contemporary Vision label. Both were given a very very limited physical release, before the label ceased production on physical items, making the two EPs quite rare and sought after in the time since.

Musically, both EPs were permutations of tracks from Radians, an album which was released at Recycled Plastics in 2012. The tracks were constructed using a unique compositional approach of taking looped sections from the final mixes of Radians tracks (not the separated session recordings) and building entirely new pieces by almost exclusive use of these loops. Thus, they sound and feel quite alien most of the time, and although they are connected intrinsically to Radians, they force their own identities through the wreckage of the loops. A similar, more subtractive process was applied to create the Reflector album, which was also cut from the Radians cloth.

Having gone back to the original session tapes for Hallex and Red Sand, two additional mixes were retrieved and subsequently cleaned up for inclusion here. These pieces were likely omitted from the original singles for the amount of runtime they would have added, and are even more disconnected and abstract than the single tracks themselves. These "recalled" mixes work well to fill out Hexad Lands, making the entire release a proper third element in an unplanned triad with Radians and Reflector.

Additionally, Hexad Lands is being given a limited (but still wider than previous) physical edition, for the collectors and newcomers who still appreciate and prefer the feel of a solid piece of art in their hands.
