Into Fog

about

"As I wend to the shores I know not,
As I list to the dirge, the voices of men and women wreck’d,
As I inhale the impalpable breezes that set in upon me,
As the ocean so mysterious rolls toward me closer and closer,
I too but signify at the utmost a little wash’d-up drift,
A few sands and dead leaves to gather,
Gather, and merge myself as part of the sands and drift."

-W. Whitman, 1892

For the next-to-last Static Pharming release of the year, RX23 exhibits a slow but steady descent into deeper waters. Opening with crackling texture from a waterlogged ship radio and the far off horn fanfare of a lost vessel's maiden voyage, "Into Fog" coalesces from vapors and humidity into a stately dub techno missive. This ship has traversed several strange seas throughout the year, and what you are hearing here is the sound of being unable to turn back. We're lost for good. All that remains is the vague hope that we will find someone or something familiar inside the fog. Light the lantern, turn down the sails and venture forth once again...
