about

Geographically, POST PROCESS exists in the previously untraveled space between VAPOROUS POST (itself a transfiguration of DRIPPING EARTH) and overgrown dub monoliths like VERDANT ACRE and URCEOLATMOSPHERION. It consists of eight mixes built using "partials" from the ANTHELION sessions (partials are my personal slang for sound files and other processing elements that are singular pieces intended for a specific role in the mixing of a larger piece), with many different types of multilayered FX wash and pitch/pan mulching, cast against a drum machine (Korg DS-10), a sampler (Korg ES-1) and a bass monosynth (Korg Volca Kick). In the generatively-sporadic spirit of recordings like NEPENTHESOL and PHYLLEX, POST PROCESS illustrates an almost careless freedom with sound-as-sandbox, focusing on a solid bass and rhythm groove that the rest of the tonal elements must bend around.

The purpose of the entire session was simply to see what might happen if these ANTHELION partials were able to be utilized in a more musical capacity, and once the first couple tracks were underway, the organic and sometimes swampy voice of POST PROCESS began to proliferate like moss and mushrooms around dead oak trees. POST PROCESS is presented as a dub techno album that does not really ascribe to most of the hallmarks of dub or techno music - rather, the dub manifests via the presence of spring reverb boxes, tape hiss, multigenerational loss from sounds that have been overdubbed and overdubbed again, and the fact that in a skeletal sense, all eight cuts are versions of the same piece of music.

These recordings are recommended for fans of Coppice Halifax's heavier dub recordings, as well as listeners interested in hearing a parallel path to certain parts of the Deep Earth series.
