Refocus II

alternating.bit There are excellent Coppice Halifax releases that I enjoy listening to and then there are CH releases that are time warp zones or black holes in which I lose time. After hitting play, before I know it an hour has passed. The serene, hypnotic dub takes you to a subconscious dimension while the outer world keeps spinning ahead. REFOCUS II does just that. I want REFOCUS I and how about a III now?

about

Constructed during a sporadic late-night session that began with modified tape-loops of Fourier-transformed content from "Iced White", and grew organically into a towering dub monument, REFOCUS II explores a minimal side of CH not often heard. Winds and waves of processed field recordings stream quietly behind two analog kick drums from the Korg KPR-77 and Memphis Blue Beat drum machines. A soft ebbing hi hat from the KPR offers a distant counterpoint. Modulated chords from a Korg MS-20 monosynth cover the landscape, trailing through an array of analog and digital reverbs. After a while, blooming subtly from the horizon, a warmth of resonant pads emerges, and eventually fills up the stereo field like a flood. Halifaxian dub techno for a cool month filled with dead leaves, orange evenings and cinnamon smoke.
