about

Collecting all ten of the color-sequenced Compost recordings from the start of the Spring season in March 2019 to the terminus of that year's Winter in February 2020, comes the first edition of the Groundskeeper's Almanac, a title designate to organize such projects and align them through a chronological and seasonal ordering.

Sonically, these ten recordings are representational of Coppice Halifax in both classic and current ways - they are longform, impressionistic pieces that are equal parts textural sound design and melodic improvisation. They truly embody the ethos of "Compost, not composition" and illustrate generative processing and synthesis concepts that result in brand new Halifaxian deep techno works, grown and built entirely from the provenance of my Anthelion recordings under my birthname. Everything you hear is resultant from the Anthelion source material, including the rhythms and bass tones, generated via careful equalization, filtering and pitch FX, where a complex system of moving parts transfigures incoming audio (either tonal or atonal) into these shapes and techno-oriented structures that play out across lengthy, immersive listening experiences.

As the Anthelion series of seasonally and elementally inspired recordings continues, so too will the Compost recordings that mutate that originating sound with alchemical magicks in the White Pillar Workshop. This is the first volume of what could be many more like it.
