With just days left of Autumn, before the Winter Equinox arrives and drives us ever deeper into the cold black end of the 2019 year, I have two recordings that exist to venerate the soon passed season. The second of these, UMBER COMPOST re-sources and re-mixes the colors and contours of the Autumnal ode Umber Anthelion (recorded and released under my birthname) in spectacular Halifaxian fashion, distilling down the textures and field recordings into a vibrant paint set, and ballooning microscopic sections of twigs, wind and leaves into full bass drum and percussion sets, by way of careful granular synthesis. What was once a wind-blown metal chime on the back porch of my home is transmuted into a soft sequence of weathered chords and sunsetting organs, and what may have once lived life as a side of a jazz LP labeled "Autumn Leaves", sleeping in a scruffy thrift store bin, has since blossomed into a distant horn fanfare, majestic and comforting, heard from beyond the leafy valley next to the studio. My COMPOST recordings have served the purpose of both proof-of-concept work, displaying how possible it is to bring melodic and rhythmic sound out of things that may not necessarily be, and also heralding the seasons as they change, cycling through elemental cues and wildly different hues as they do, making me feel more at ease as things change, happy to see them rambling on, not holding on too tightly to the present as it so swiftly becomes the past, pulled back down to the Earth with such inconsiderate gravity, where it will be ground into pulp and fertilize the Springs and Summers yet to be born.

I would echo one fan's comment calling this track "space dub." It brings wave after wave of surreal sounds, with a steady and innovative beat that underpins it all. This is great for drives on the highway. todd1049
