    Assembled by hand, one copy at a time, in the White Pillar Workshop. One white 5" recordable disc, printed and duplicated via Imation D20, held securely inside a windowed white paperboard jacket with a blue cardstock insert bearing the hand-stamped CH sun logo, with a white text sticker on the back cover. Contained in and protected by a clear plastic cast polypropylene sleeve, with a flap on the back side, to keep your sonic artifact dust and moisture-free.

In a slight return to 2017's two-part Springthaw album, the format of two half-hour live jams alongside an ambient backdrop reincarnates here as Winterthaw. Winterthaw consists of two extended ambient techno explorations that process and transfigure source material from the Winterspheres sessions (see: briangrainger.bandcamp.com/album/winterspheres ).

The first half, Nightly Quarter, begins subdued and distant, but builds into a larger and ever-heavier structure of overlapping rhythms and effects textures, generated live with multiple samplers and drum machines. The second half, Downtune Lux, is a further reduction of the ambient source material, with pitch shifters, noise gates and multiple reverbs/delays, over a simple low-passed kick drum and one-note bassline from the Korg MS-20 monosynth, while a field recording of a 2015 sleet storm unspools in the back. Together, these two pieces provide a stimulating counterpoint to the recent Winterspheres reissue, as well as revisiting a Halifaxian acre during a different season altogether.
