about

Migration consists of eight ambient pieces, extracted from three different rehearsal sessions that were recorded in preparation for Pawleys Island's 10th anniversary release party, which was broadcast live on October 29, 2021. The initial plan, upon rediscovering these rehearsals while organizing the release of the broadcast itself (see: Valley in Repose), was to append them to a solo release of Valley in Repose, but after delving a bit deeper into the audio in order to figure out what sections could be suitable for release, it became clear that this was altogether a different album of music.

While aspects of Migration's provenance sometimes emerge clearly, the majority of this material creeps in like a fog, with fragments of melody and chordal shifts occasionally surfacing. For longtime listeners, Migration perhaps most resembles prior recordings like Ocean Lion III or even aspects of the Deep Earth triple-album Kosma. Following on those tripartite works, Migration does not differ, as the collective runtime fills out a full three-discs of sound. A triptych of triptychs.

These details aside, Migration can simply be a warm bed to drift to sleep on, manifesting somewhere between the Halifaxian coastline and the deep green valley next to the White Pillar Workshop. A softened edge of ambient fabric to drape over the Autumn season.
