The second EP of the 2014 Static Pharming series is the open skied sonic expanse Outpost. Rolling grey chords mutated from Bedrich Smetana's orchestral impressionism pour out from heavy clouds and distant thunder, and a lurching rhythm appears beneath the shadows. Slowly, the desert sky opens up and cold rain touches down on the cracked sepia rock and sand. In an abandoned building not far away, a broken radio receiver spills static and fuzz into the airwaves, and a pronounced kick drum drops from the storm, using a single note of bass as its counterpoint. By the end of this excursion, the washes of rainy sheets of sad string drones hit a critical mass, and a sparse organ melody appears inside the wetness, bringing the sunshine out and driving the grey clouds away.
