about

You're lying down in a green wood, while streams flow down and around you on all sides. At first their burbling waters appear to be clear, then vaguely prismatic - like blowing bubbles - until you begin to realize that they are not water at all, but impossibly endless lines of cassette tape ribbon, reflecting all manner of silver and white from the sunny bright sky above you. Or is it below you? Is this a meadow at all? It starts to feel more like a warm carpet, actually, and that bright sunshine is just a ceiling lamp. Coming back to reality you begin to understand the full effect of your sleep deprivation: a wooden table nearby is filled with several small machines covered in blinking lights, and a black speaker below them belts out a hypnotic rhythm. Beside the machines is a reel to reel which has somehow gone wildly off track, steadily unspooling tape for however long you've been out of it. Maybe twenty minutes? You can't find a clock anywhere, but the reel is nearly exhausted. You pick up the box the reel must've been in - Haddaway's single for "What Is Love?". Man, weird night.
